London, 19 December 2022: The final weekend of 2022 at the FA National Futsal Series saw Bloomsbury Futsal Club getting mixed results. While the Bloomsbury Futsal Mens 1st Team registered a monumental 13-2 win over Wessex Futsal Club 1st, the Bloomsbury Futsal Womens 1st Team went down fighting 0-4 against the defending champions Birmingham WLV Women here at Hartpury College on Saturday.
Tapia Owens’ men finished the calendar year with a bang, having registered their fourth win of the season. They are still unbeaten in the league.

Leading from the front, Captain Richard Ward netted four goals, while Eduardo Amorim and Diogo Da Silva each bagged a fine hat-trick. Ollie Jones, Samuel Smith, and Henrique Do Carmo also chipped in with a goal each to help Bloomsbury register a big win. Meanwhile, Jordan Matthews scored two goals for Wessex.
A lively start to the game saw Eddie drawing first blood for Bloomsbury with a magical strike. Wessex responded immediately and scored the equaliser through Matthews in the third minute of the game. However, it was short-lived as Eddie scored the second goal to give Bloomsbury a 2-1 lead in the 4th minute. Bloomsbury Men rode the momentum to end the first half with a dominating 7-1 lead through goals from Da Silva (13′), Ward (15′), and Smith (19′) respectively.
It was a quiet start to the second half. Wessex made changes in their defence and kept Bloomsbury’s attack at bay. They also pulled a goal back through Matthews in the 30th minute, but Bloomsbury responded quickly as Ward added the 8th goal to his team’s tally in the 32nd minute. Da Silva then scored two back-to-back goals in the 35th minute to complete his hat trick and Eddie also completed his hat trick in the 38th minute. A minute later, Do Carmo joined the party as he scored the team’s 12th goal of the match. Ward then netted his fourth goal to help his team cap off 2022 with a dominating 13-2 win.
Da Silva, who starred with a hat trick, stated, “It’s always the best feeling to contribute to the team’s win. There were six different goal scorers in the game, which really shows how good we are as a team.”
“It is a really important win as we go into the break unbeaten and it will really help us with the momentum in the second half of the season. We are sonly halfway through, there are a lot of games left. We just need to keep doing the same and keep working hard to qualify for the playoffs,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the Womens Team had a 0-4 defeat against the defending champions in a hard-fought clash.
It was a cagey start to the match, with both teams looking for spaces in each other’s half and attacking cautiously. After numerous attempts from both sides, it was Birmingham who broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through Angie Morley. Bloomsbury immediately upped their ante to score an equaliser, but a red card to Gemma Aldeen just before the break gave their opponents a huge advantage.
The second half saw Birmingham scoring three goals through Annie Highway (27′), Morley (28′) and Alisha Miller (37′) respectively to hand Bloomsbury their first defeat of the season.
Reflecting on the game, Captain Helena Scotland stated, “The first half of the season didn’t end how we expected it to, but it’s a big learning experience for us all.”
“We are still in a solid position in the points table. One loss doesn’t define us as a team, we’ve still got half a season left. we know the areas we need to improve on. We will regroup after the break and work on our goal of qualifying for the playoffs,” she concluded.
