Showcasing Bloomsbury Values

2nd Feb 2023

Featured Fixture
Bloomsbury girls U16 2-0 Welling United

Scarlet was the player that stood out the most. She worked tirelessly on the wing during every transitioning opportunity and looked to play great balls into Theresa or Romoya for them to run onto! Promise and Carla were extremely strong in defence, playing the ball away from pressure effortlessly into central midfield areas and out wide. Theresa’s back-to-back goals in the last 20 minutes of the game were great to see! She started to get comfortable with the larger pitch, began to recognise and exploit the space she had and went on to score two amazing goals! In training, the team focused on counter attacking, specifically different types of turns and when to use them. This had a massive impact on the game when playing out from the back and during transitional opportunities in the central midfield areas. Next week we will focus on our ability to attack into space and recycling the ball, ready for the FA Youth Futsal League fixture at the weekend!

Bloomsbury boys U9 Gold vs Gladstone Rangers

Misha received player of the match again! He is a player who plays and make his team play. He is always cheering up team mates and makes a lot of runs back to recover balls and play forward again. Lawrence jumped in the goal for the second half and made some amazing saves! He showed a lot of passion! The “Woods brothers” have a lot of potential as goalkeepers! After calling up Robert, a player from the Black Team to play for the Golds, there was huge improvement from him! On game day, Robert was completely focused and positive, he played in the midfield, and he showed a true maestro role! A lot of passes, keeping position, staying calm and making runs to recover! A round of applause happened in the end of the game as a prize for Robert’s hard-work and good behaviour! Playing opposed smaller games in training helped us to stay focused. The players made a lot of touches on the ball in the beginning of the training session and then switched to drills where they release the ball quicker due the pressure which helps us to play back and organize the game from the back. The boys will be working on making games where we need to aim to score in smaller spaces. This will help the players to play with their heads up and have more eye contact with their teammates.

Bloomsbury boys U9 Gold vs EFA Gold

Misha’s attitude and leadership is getting better on game days and the boys showed an amazing team effort trying to recover back balls and make the play wider as they have been practicing. Teo scored a great goal 15 minutes into the second half! At half time, we were losing 5-2 and the players were told to trust each other! We needed to start releasing the ball, passing more and trusting everyone. Only as a team can we beat the opposition and win hard games! We recovered 2 goals and pushed them to their half for the rest of the game. In training we have been focusing on building the attack and playing through wide areas, which we showed in the game. Communication and trust in everyone is the key for success!

Bloomsbury girls U10 vs European Football School

Ettie and Diaz deserve player of the match as it was their debuts for Bloomsbury, and they put in 110% effort! Ettie played in defence, making some great tackles and having great determination to win the ball. Diaz made some great challenges when playing in midfield and worked hard to help us get up and down the pitch. In the second half, we started to play a lot better, trying to win the ball higher up the pitch. Mila made some great saves in the first half and the same with Deminy in the second half! Lyla made sure she was in a great space at all times and Ellie carried the ball up the pitch well. Piper, Amalia and Ettie showed some superb defensive work, getting the ball up the pitch and clear of our defensive third. A great strike from Poppy after a fantastic run from Deminy gave us our goal! It’s hard to pinpoint one moment, but seeing the girls celebrate the goal scored together and congratulating each other was a great moment to see! It showed that working hard to win the ball high up will pay off! In training we worked on counterattacking, and more individuals looked to carry the ball up the pitch. We will improve next week by working on our offensive and defensive shape and positioning, as well as doing some work on organisation. With these girls, they put in so much effort and gave a great attitude, so they look to improve each week!

Bloomsbury boys U11 2-1 Camden Borough AFC

During the second half, Max played at right fullback, and he was very influential in winning or intercepting the ball high up the pitch, particularly from goal kicks. The opposition struggled to get out of their own half during the second half, and Max was influential in this. Our first goal was a long strike from Archie, which led to a scrap in the box where Ezekial had a strike on the ball in from close range. Our winning goal was after a long period of dominance in possession, and particularly rewarded Ezekial for a fantastic display of pace and power while he played striker. We worked on elements of counter attacking in training. The transition from defence to attack saw certain players drive forward with the ball very quickly. We will be potentially working on the defensive line’s shape so to not be too flat.

Bloomsbury boys U11 Gold 4-3 Panthera FC

Oliver scored a hat-trick to get us over the line and put in a near perfect performance. Oli has struggled with the physicality this season; however, he was very much back to his best both in an attacking and defensive sense, working tirelessly in and out of possession both individually as well as bringing teammates into the game/working with them to regain possession. Eytan made some crucial saves to thwart the opposition at crucial times in the game. After conceding, the opposition would look to restart the game at a frantic pace and playing more direct football which we struggled to deal with at times, however Eytan was there to make a couple of very important saves. The cheers from parents and players at the end of the game was great to see! Especially after ending a 5-game losing streak against arguably the best team we will play this season! We revisited shape work in training in order to promote even more structure to our transitions, alongside working on counter attacks to which we looked extremely dangerous every time we mounted one.

Bloomsbury boys U12 Black 7-0 Optimum Academy

Everett and Eben both deserve player of the match. Both players contributed to a number of goals we scored! Everett dominated the midfield battle with a number of well-timed tackles and interceptions, allowing us to progress the ball forward, scoring 2 goals for himself! Eben, on his debut, played like he’d been with the team for a number of seasons! His composure and ability to link play as one of our attackers contributed hugely to our dominant performance. The way in which we kept possession throughout the game and calmness on the ball was great to see! After winning the ball from an opposition corner, we launched forward in a counterattack. The ball dropped into Everett’s feet who then flicked it wide into Sami’s path, with a burst of acceleration, he got past his opponent and from a wide angle, smashed it top left corner. Well deserved! This week, we worked on counter attacking and following the 3 S’s: Speed, Space and Support. A number of goals came through quick combination play in wide areas, resulting to a whipped cross across the box into a teammate with a first-time finish which was fantastic to see! We want to build on consistent results backed up by consistent performances. The boys will be focusing on what our position requires from us.

Bloomsbury girls U12 1-3 Regents Park Youth

Emily showed excellent communication throughout and had a positive attitude, especially on the bench encouraging her team. Jet scored in the first minute with a great strike from far out. We had some amazing spells of possession but couldn’t capitalise on them in the final third. It was great to see Janet back and absolutely smashing it in attack (and making saves in goal!), always finding the right spaces to move into. Muzique made some very big saves in the first half and played very well out of goal in midfield. In the second half, she also found some great passing angles for attackers to play her. It really looked like we were going to make it 2-2 in the dying minutes of the game. Everyone playing did not give up and that is all we can ask for, even when they had a lucky break to make it 3-1 with 5 minutes to go, everyone worked incredibly hard. We have been practicing controlling balls in the air and it was noticeable that some great touches from throw ins and goal kicks were made. We will be working on counter attacking and how we take advantage of our overload and score more!

Bloomsbury girls U12 2-6 Most Wanted Elite

Player of the match goes to Remai, again! She has really taken our player review points on board and has started to take on players 1v1 which is great to see. Although the team was at a new venue and with new coaches leading, all players did really well individually, a true testament to Bloomsbury and the whole squad! Unfortunately, we struggled to get the ball into the final third to get back into the game. Emily never stopped and in fact everyone did really well in getting back behind the ball when we lost it. It was a tough game on a small grass pitch that we had never played on before but just like Friday we never gave up! I think we need to work more on counter attacking, holding the ball when we have it and not panicking on the ball. We had been working on this in training, but it just needs a reminder, and we will be flying again!

Bloomsbury boys U14 4-3 Enfield Rangers

Leo made his debut and did not put a foot wrong all game, a brick wall in the middle of midfield! The first goal had some beautiful build up play from the defence to Joel in midfield who played a brilliant flick to the on running Jake. A brilliant first time cross from our captain to new signing Elyon gave us our first goal and Elyons first in the Bloomsbury Black and Gold! High intensity with great attendance had a massive impact to the game, with our players fighting for places in the starting line-up. Controlling the game better will be the main aim. We conceded two poor goals that brought Enfield back to 3-3, so to control the game better we need to keep possession in areas where if we lose the ball we cannot be threatened from.
