FA National Futsal Series 2022/23: Bloomsbury Futsal Womens 1st Team won 4-3 against Southampton Aztecs Women; Bloomsbury Futsal Mens 1st Team defeated York Futsal Vikings 4-0

London, 30 January 2023: Both Bloomsbury Futsal Womens 1st Team and Mens 1st Team kickstarted the 2023 calendar year with wins in their respective matches of FA National Futsal Series 2022/23 at their home venue – Aldenham School last weekend.

Playing their first home game, Bloomsbury Women edged past Southampton Aztecs Women 4-3 in a thrilling clash on Saturday.

Liam Francis’ side started the game on the front foot with a structured attack and went on to break the deadlock through the team’s leading goalscorer Hannah Kraakman. But, Southampton Aztecs Women scored an equaliser through Leah Harris. Minutes later, the home side restored the lead through debutant Maisie O’Shea, however, that was short-lived as Southampton yet again drew parity in the game through Bekah Tonks. Continuing with their attacking intent, Bloomsbury went on to score the third goal of the match with just five seconds left in the first half. It was debutant Anna Paterson who restored Bloomsbury’s lead to 3-2 at the end of the first half.

Looking to score their third equaliser, Southampton came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and were rewarded for their efforts as Amy Maidment scored the third goal in the second minute of the second half. Three minutes later, Kraakman scored her third and the team’s fourth goal of the match, which turned out to be a winning goal as the latter stage of the second half saw an entertaining end-to-end action.

Reflecting on the performance Hannah Kraakman said, “The game was an interesting one, I don’t think we did ourselves or our supporters justice with our performance and it’s a good wake up call for us that we can’t slack off in any game as every opposition is going to be a tough one.”

She added, “In saying that, it was amazing to play our first home game – the support from the crowd was amazing and we appreciate everyone who made it down.”

On Sunday, Bloomsbury Men eased past York Futsal Vikings 4-0 to extend their unbeaten run.

The start of the game saw some open action, with both teams trying to look for an opening. The home side broke the deadlock through Ollie Jones’ stunning strike in the 15th minute of the match. They capitalised on it as they ended the first half with a 2-0 lead. Jarrod Basger found the back of the next in the 18th minute to double his team’s lead.

A similar story unfolded in the second period as no goals were scored in the first half. However, Bloomsbury enjoying the possession went on to make it 3-0 through Connor Millar’s fiery strike in the 31st minute of the game. Eduardo Amorim went on to add a fourth goal to the tally in the 37th minute of the game, thus ending the game with a clean sheet and three crucial points.

Speaking about the home win, Eddie stated, “We started the year off as well as we possibly could. 3 points and a clean sheet in front of our family, friends and fans was a feeling of great accomplishment. I feel good and so does the team.”

“Our focus has now shifted to the next game. We’re hoping to keep this momentum going into the next game in 2 weeks,” he concluded.
