Bloomsbury Futsal Womens 1st Team continue unbeaten run with 6-1 win over Hartpury

London, 05 December 2022: Bloomsbury Futsal Womens 1st Team continued their unbeaten streak with a 6-1 victory over Hartpury Futsal Club Women in their fourth FA National Futsal Series 2022/23 match here at Northgate Arena on Saturday.

Tessa Leong starred with a clinical hat-trick, while Merce Portabella, Paula Sanchez and skipper Helena Scotland scored a goal each in what was Bloomsbury’s fourth consecutive win of the season.

Bloomsbury Womens 1st Team got out of the blocks swiftly, pushing Hartpury on the backfoot right from the start. They opened the scoring in the fifth minute, with Merce Portabella comfortably finding the back of the net. In the next minute, Bloomsbury went on to double the lead. It was Paula Sanchez, who slotted the ball home off a long throw from goalkeeper Alice Harkness-Armstrong.

Bloomsbury continued with their attacking intent, and in the 10th minute, Tessa Leong got into a fantastic position to score the third goal. A minute later, skipper Helena Scotland got on the scoresheet to make the scoreline 4-0. Hartpury’s defensive skills finally came to their rescue as they ended the first without conceding further goals.

The second half also saw Bloomsbury create opportunities, but Hartpury’s goalkeeper stood tall and nullified every attempt she faced. However, in the 33rd minute, an error from Hartpury’s defence gave away a 10 meter penalty to Bloomsbury, which was duly converted by Tessa. Two minutes later, Tessa completed her hat-trick and put Bloomsbury in the driver’s seat.

Hartpury did get a goal back in the 37th minute through Holly Rogers, but that wasn’t enough as Bloomsbury maintained composure to bag a 6-1 win to maintain their spot at the top of the points table.

Reflecting on the performance, the star performer Tessa expressed, “It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet and I was stoked to get my first hat trick in the league.”

She further added that there was an extremely physical battle on court. “Hartpury were a difficult team to play against, but we prepared well during the week and did what we needed to do to bring home 3 points. We had a few players unavailable for the game, but we have a talented squad and it was great to see new players stepping up,” she said.

Having registered fourth consecutive win of the season, Tessa said, “This win was important for us to continue building momentum. We’ve got two big games coming up before the Christmas break, and our full focus is on preparing for those.”

“Helvecia next week will a good challenge for us to see how we stack up against another good side at the top end of the table,” she concluded.
