The resilience from kick off was great to see. The opposition dominated the ball in the early preceding, however the entire team stood resolute. Despite having much less possession, we were extremely clinical, scoring 3 in the first half and dominating as we entered the second half. Getting an early goal calmed nerves, however with 15 minutes left, the opposition managed to score twice having only 8 players in the fixture, and then shortly going down to 7. This match once again reaffirmed belief in this team, a group of players that stand together against adversity and face obstacles head on! Despite the numerous obstacles, the team continued to fight and achieved a well-deserved win! Rupert achieved player of the match for his clinical nature and great bursts of speed which allowed us to go into half time 3-0 up and put us in a position where the opposition had to chase the game! We will be focusing more on game-based training sessions as a reward for the final week of training, the entire team put in an immense amount of effort through this block, and they deserved the reward. The team get a well-deserved break for all their endeavours as they enjoy the easter holiday!
Some of the key moments were their passing. They had great vision and did not give up. Another moment to highlight was their determination to win the ball back. Lots of these boys were bigger than the U7’s but that did not stop them! Every tackle they put in was 100% and even after getting knocked down, they picked themselves up and played on. The best moment was when Idris passed the ball out to Zak who got it out of his feet delivering a brilliant ball to Nathan who crossed the ball to the other side of the pitch perfectly and Castro touched it down and had a shot unfortunately going wide. Player of the match goes to Castro. Throughout the game he was a beast in defence. He never gave up and some of his tackles were phenomenal. He was on top of his game the whole 40 minutes. Communication can be worked on as well as everyone not following the ball everywhere it goes. Find space and play their game!
With a few players unavailable to play this game 2 Black players moved up to play for the Golds. Robert is a usual one, standing his name over and over as a baller, and now Gustave with a strong left foot and an amazing understanding and awareness of the game. Both of them help the team a lot and within just 2 minutes of playing, Pax, who made himself available to jump in goal to show great skills and save lots of goals, made an unbelievable pass to Gustave on the left wing who had a touch and strikes the ball to the back of the net! Laurence as usual showed great leadership and communication skills, pushing everyone up when things did not feel great and even scored a hat trick! Kingsley jumped on from the bench and his amazing attitude brought him 4 goals! At halftime, the boys were asked to switch the game more often, and when under pressure to do what we had been doing in training: keep possession, pass the ball to the player who is facing the game so we can organise the game in our favour and have better decision making. In doing that, Marco who is getting better at playing out of the ball, was able to create space to his teammates to play to. He made a lot of great movements, pushing defenders up the pitch and leaving space on his back for the midfielder’s and wingers to penetrate. That led us to score a lot of goals as a unit! Without Tommy, who normally plays amazingly as goalkeeper, the boys showed great teamwork in swapping times in goal so everyone could have a chance to play outfield! Additionally, when a player suffered a fault, Franco without wasting time had a touch on the ball and made an amazing pass to the opposite wing who led to create a lot of danger! Smart one from our midfield player! Franco receives player of the match as his movement in and off the ball was brilliant, doing exactly what we had been practicing on. For the last couple of weeks we had been working through repetition in switching the game from one wing to the midfield (or defence) to the other wing so we can open spaces in our opposition. This is bringing us a lot of confidence on the ball, a lot of goals and only a few goals conceded! Next couple of weeks will be Easter Break, but when we are back, we will be working on throw ins and when to move, where to receive and what to expect when having thrown ins against and in our favour! This is something the boys are struggling with a little bit, taking too long to decide and let the opposition to compact us in one area of the pitch, so we will be working on this!
This game was very tough as the other team were strong and well drilled. And this game wasn’t the best performance we have had. However, our movement on the ball and their desire to win the ball was their best component as a team today. The best moment was Elias’ goal. Elias is on a goal streak at the moment scoring one this game and last week as well! Robert took an amazing corner which the goalkeeper saved but Elias was there to pick up the pieces and slotted the ball in the back of the net making the score at the time 1-1! Louay was player of the match. His defending has been so good recently. Especially in this match, he was making amazing blocks and making some amazing stops when the ball was about to go over our goal line. He kept pushing no matter how many goals. It was very impressive to see! We have worked a lot on movement off the ball however that is an area we need to improve on as we didn’t do much of it in the game. This team especially need to work on their communication with each other and also helping them learn when to release the ball and when to dribble with it!
The entire game was very end to end, however in the second half especially we dominated the play. The girls did some great passes throughout and were looking to move into space to receive passes, as well as having some individual moments of brilliance! Big shoutout to Neveah for making her debut for Bloomsbury and getting an assist! Poppy and Anne both took the captain’s armband for a half each and their communication and support for their teammates was excellent! Ettie took on board the coaching points given extremely well, and her marking was superb which helped open up space for other players. Piper was a brick wall of defence throughout the game and even went on a fantastic run to get an assist, dribbling past the entire opposition! The best moment was the girls celebrating the goals together, and how supportive and excited they were for Neveah and her confidence began to grow as the game went on! Player of the match has to go to Bakita for the game. She was everywhere! Anytime the opposition looked to get through on goal she would appear, ready to make a fantastic tackle. She got a well-deserved goal as soon as she came out of goal herself. She struck a great shot past the opposition keeper! Her passes, skill, and first touch were excellent, and all the girls praised her in the team talk at the end. This week we have worked on movement to receive passes and pass appreciation. The girls definitely showed this during the game. When we next have a game we will look to improve aspects of the game in finer detail, looking to hold shape and positioning and improving our scanning even further.
The girls started the game off strong with Kaya scoring 2 within the first 4 minutes of the game. The girls then kept the intensity high and were communicating and linking up well to get up the pitch, which led to Jet grabbing her first goal just before the 10th minute, and Kaya securing her hat-trick in the 11th minute. The intensity then dropped slightly with the opposition grabbing 2 goals before half time. After a half time team talk the girls picked the intensity up with O’Miya and Tara scoring within the first 10 minutes of the second half. The opposition then grabbed their third goal before Kaya grabbed her fourth and Jet grabbed 2 more goals to complete her hat-trick! Overall it was a strong performance from the girls and an excellent debut from Lauryn who made some excellent saves in goal. The best moment was when the team scored a goal from combining together in the midfield! The girls kept their heads up and found the next pass easily which led to them advancing up the pitch with ease. Player of the match was Jet, for her non-stop running and tracking back. She even assisted a few of the goals and grabbed herself hat-trick! In training we worked on some shooting, which the girls implemented well on Sunday, with them scoring 9 goals! Next time we will be better at helping the defenders out, as some players were tracking back but not all.
