This experience was the perfect example of how tournament football can be!
Despite a solid showing in the group stage, not conceding a goal, we unfortunately succumbed to a semi-final penalty defeat. On an incredibly hot day, the players performed to an admirable standard, fighting for their team and the outcome was unfortunate.
However the quality and the effort on the day was second to none. Player of the Match goes to Leonardo for dominating in the midfield. He led by example and was fantastic in setting fast and intense starts to help the team play positively. A great goal in the final group fixture allowed the team to finish top of the group!
The first loss. A poor game by our standards, slow and lacked any real intensity. However the group understood the dip and reacted in a fantastic manner- we qualified with two solid wins in the group stage that got us into the quarter final!
This quarter final led to penalties after a 0-0 draw. A mixed quality of penalties but we won the penalty shootout with Adam’s shot! Into the semi-final where penalties repeat after a tight 1-1 draw, where Everett scored a great free kick to get us level! However we were unable to repeat the heroics, losing on penalties. A number of the players had participated in two back-to-back tournaments to a high standard. Such a great effort!
Rabah was Player of the Match as he ended the tournament as top goal scorer and played in all positions to a high level! Rabah had a fantastic tournament to add to a great season from him!
