Bloomsbury Football is on a mission to make football fun and affordable for every young person in London. We’re proud to work with over 5,500 players weekly, but that leaves thousands of Londoners without regular access to the sport.

Our strategy details our ambitious growth plans as well as the methods we’ll use to engage 20,000 young people every week by 2028.

BLOOMSBURY FOOTBALL TODAY

We support 5,000 young people aged 3-18 per week.

We use football to improve mental & physical wellbeing, teach life skills and build stronger communities.

Our projected turnover for 2023-24 is £3.4m. Since we began in 2018, we’ve grown year on year by an average of 94%.

We have 60 full-time equivalent employees – of which 35 are full-time and 60 are part-time.

HOW WE’LL GROW

COMMUNITY-CENTRED APPROACH

Bloomsbury Communities are full-scale community projects that places local roots at the heart of our approach in order to bring people together.

It’s a hyper-localised approach to football provision, with each Community providing the full range of Bloomsbury Football programmes from weekly sessions to competitive play.

REMOVING ACCESS BARRIERS

Every Bloomsbury Community is 2-3km in radius, with dedicated coaches working in the region.

By providing safe, local venues within existing communities, Bloomsbury Football removes physical access barriers to pitches and enable more young people to play regularly.

SCALABLE PROVISION

Our Communities model is not just tried and tested, already providing football for over 5,500 boys and girls. It is also a replicable approach that can be used across the capital.

By 2028, we aim to run 18 different communities in London, which will enable us to engage 20,000 young players every single week.

CHANGING YOUNG LIVES

SHOLA

Shola’s autism doesn’t stop her from playing in our Girls Football Academy.

Her father Damien said that Bloomsbury’s programmes “allowed Shola to find her place, be expressive and come out of her shell. At one stage, when Shola came out of care, she was non-verbal. With Bloomsbury’s help, she improved her communication and found a home where she feels appreciated.”

ELIJAH

Elijah is one of the Bloomsbury Football Scholars at Haverstock School. Before joining, his school attendance was poor and was at risk of dropping out.

Our College programme has drastically improved his studies and engagement with education. His teacher said “It’s been amazing seeing the change in Elijah. I always knew he loved football, but didn’t expect this programme to improve his academic performance too.”
